At the Philippine Economic Briefing held in Osaka, Japan, key figures from the Philippine private sector—Dr. Reghis M. Romero II, Chairman of the Board of RMR Capital Inc., Mr. Yongsoo Samuel Cho, Chief Executive Officer of IEK HQ Company Philippines Inc., and Mr. Karl Lyel B. Lim, Executive Assistant to the Chairman—actively participated in high-level discussions that underscored the Philippines’ evolving energy and infrastructure landscape.

Their presence at the briefing reflects a shared commitment to aligning corporate strategies with national development goals and regional investment opportunities. For RMR Capital Inc., the event provided direct access to policy updates and investment incentives under the Philippine Energy Transition Program (PETP) and the Philippine Energy Plan 2023–2050, enabling the firm to explore new ventures in infrastructure modernization, energy storage systems (ESS), and smart grid development.

Meanwhile, IEK HQ Company Philippines Inc., with its cross-border expertise in special energy and logistics, is well-positioned to support the deployment of Offshore Wind (OSW) and indigenous natural gas solutions. The company’s strategic interest in clean and flexible energy technologies aligns with the Philippine government’s push for long-term energy security, particularly through partnerships with Japanese LNG suppliers.

Key Highlights from the Briefing

Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin presented the Philippines’ energy investment roadmap, emphasizing the role of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner, flexible complement to renewables. Supported by the 2025 Philippine Natural Gas Industry Act, LNG is positioned as a strategic solution to meet rising energy demand while enabling a smoother transition to low-carbon alternatives.

Secretary Garin also outlined the Philippine Energy Transition Program (PETP), which includes:

  • Scaling up Offshore Wind (OSW) with a potential capacity of 178 GW
  • Modernizing the grid through the Smart and Green Grid Plan (SGGP)
  • Deploying Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to ensure grid stability and resilience

These initiatives are backed by robust policy frameworks and incentives, creating fertile ground for public–private partnerships and foreign direct investment.

Diplomatic and Investment Engagements

The Philippine delegation—led by DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan, DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque, and DOE Secretary Sharon S. Garin—also convened the Philippines–Japan High-Level Joint Committee Meeting on Infrastructure Development and Economic Cooperation. In addition, one-on-one meetings with Japan’s top investors reinforced the Philippines’ commitment to fostering inclusive growth, sustainable development, and regional cooperation.
